We’re celebrating the holidays this year with a boozy night at The Bell House, and we’re bringing super DJs Kon (Nite Time, Kon & Amir) and 7L (Bladerunners, Bang Noyes) down from Boston to rock with us. We all know that Thanksgiving Eve is one of the best party nights of the year, especially for those who live in New York and do not leave New York. The city clears out, nobody has to work in the morning, and we all wake up knowing we’re going to eat all-day long on Thanksgiving. Basically we are all some grown adults feeling a little like Ferris Bueller as we go out tonight.
Well, the best part of all of this is that we are throwing a huge party tonight with our good pals and party rockers, The Freedom Party. These guys throw an incredible weekly party at Le Poisson Rouge that fits The Rub-mantra perfectly. We have thrown a couple dual parties before and they always pop off. We suggest you put your party hat on and get out to Brooklyn early for what’s going to be the best party in New York City tonight.

Another year and another batch of incredible Halloween costumes at The Rub Halloween party. Thanks to all of ya’ll who came out to celebrate with us. There was something really special about the energy of the night, and boy, did shit get real in NYC less than 48 hours later. Our 10th year anniversary was everything we could have wanted it to be. Just Blaze and Mike the Gaff were our special guests on a night that saw record crowds at The Bell House. It was DJ Ayres’ birthday to top it off and his birthday cake was pretty much the greatest thing ever. The crowd in the front room was treated to not one but two sets from Just Blaze, as he mixed from one classic he produced to another. It really was sing-a-long hour as one of the great producers of our time got down and sweaty with us. Rahnon looked beautiful as ever holding down the door, as she has for the past 10 years now. It was a real family feeling all night. We thank everyone for coming out and celebrating an anniversary that still seems surreal. 10 years and counting!!!

“Summer of The Rub” Mix and Fool’s Gold Podcast

“Summer of The Rub” is officially here!!!! What better way to get this celebration started than releasing a new mix as apart of our buds over at Fool’s Gold Records’ “Foolcast” Podcast series?
Our kick-off party is this Saturday at Dekalb Market and it is going to be an absolute throwdown. We’re bringing out the big guns with DJ Neil Armstrong as well as Rich Medina to ensure your evening becomes a sweaty sing-a-long.
As for the podcast, well this is not your typical mix at all.
DJ Ayres explains: “There is a grocery store in Brooklyn called Food Town where they have a station that plays tons of 60s music and there is a lot of overlap with Vietnam movie soundtracks from when we were kids, like Platoon, Full Metal Jacket and the TV show Tour of Duty (its opening credits were to Paint it Black by the Stones). It’s a weird filter but it’s really powerful music. So anyway we came up with a big list and then narrowed it down to 1967-1973, took out the obvious “UBB Rock Breaks” (In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida) and the stuff which was too soft (Strawberry Letter 23), then we each mixed for 30 minutes and boom! Summer of The Rub Foolscast!”
