FOTR this week is Nick Hook. This producing chameleon has a new project, 50 Backwoods, dropping next week with DJ Earl on Fool’s Gold and it’s shaping up to be an interesting release. The killer first single featuring vocals from Wiki just dropped last week. Nick and Earl are also heading out on a tour starting this week and hitting 9 cities total through the 23rd. Make sure to peep this new single and project (album is due this Friday!) and catch Nick out on tour.

FOTR this week is one of the baddest (if not THE baddest) DJ on the planet. The resume should be well known already but this dude is as technically gifted on the decks as it gets. 3X solo DMC champ in a row (the only DJ to ever to accomplish that feat), multiple team titles with The Allies and a stack of Youtube vids showing off his skills that millions and millions of views. Not to mention his continued push to play and feature the dopest and most forward thinking turn up anthems in his sets. He’s also one of the dudes running Slow Roast Records, which is an imprint that’s been cranking out killer content for years now. Catch this recent showcase of skills, next level tunes and some Slow Roast catalog in Craze’s amazing Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 from a couple weeks ago. You’ve got just under 3 weeks to stream this bad boy. Check it out and link with Craze on all the socials outlined below.

Our second FOTR this week is our other special guest on Saturday, Zephyr Ann. She’s an active member in all things culture in NY (by way of Cambridge, Massachusetts) and has been active for a number of years now. Whether it’s via her DJing, working at Turntable Lab, contributing think pieces for Okayplayer or teaching youth with the Building Beats team, Zephyr is constantly sharing her voice about things she’s loves in a passionate and proactive way. She’s played rooms all over the city like House of Yes, Good Room, Our Wicked Lady, Mad Tropical and more and we’re so stoked to have her join us for the first time at The Rub for our annual Halloween jump off. Check out a recent mix from her and all her relevant links below and don’t miss her on the decks this Saturday at The Bell House!

Our first FOTR this week is DJ Kayper out of the UK. She’s one of the most versatile DJ’s you’ll find anywhere as she has legit turtablist level skill, BBC Radio hosting experience and over the past several years has become an accomplished producer. She’s DJ’d all over the world, performed at festivals such as Coachella and Glastonbury and very recently was a finalist for the first ever Goldie Awards put on by A-Trak and Fool’s Gold. She’ll be making her first ever appearance at The Rub this coming Saturday for our annual Halloween bash and we couldn’t be more excited to have her. Check out her latest EP and all her socials below and don’t miss her set this Saturday at The Bell House!

Watch this video below of DJ Eclipse tearing it up on Funkmaster Flex’s turntables and you might guess he has a superstar attitude to go with his massive skills, but E is truly the nicest dude in the world. We met him at Fat Beats in the 90s, the brick and mortar epicenter of underground hip-hop, where he was the manager. Despite burning the candle at both ends, co-hosting The Halftime Show and DJing for Non Phixion, Eclipse always greeted us with a smile and a pound, and 20 years later, he’s still that humble, friendly guy. You can still catch him burning up the airwaves with the best hip-hop records you’ve never heard before, on Sirius’ Hip Hop Nation (Rap is Outta Control on Monday nights), and follow him on all the socials:

FOTR this week is Kevlove, who is also our special guest this Saturday at The Bell House. He’s a Jersey City native and has been embedded in the burgeoning culture that’s been developing there. Any quick glance at Kev’s socials and you see that he’s loaded up with a number of gigs every single week whether in Jersey or NY/BK. What’s got us so hyped on him playing The Rub this Saturday is the way he rocks a set. His M.O. is really encapsulated in this quote: “What is most important to me in DJing or any project I undertake is to genuinely have the love for it. This foundation is imperative because everything else after falls into place – people begin to see your vision, you start connecting and building relationships, and opportunity begins to present itself.” PREACH. You can get a quick feel for his vibe on the decks with his fresh edition of Rub Radio he just dropped for us last week below. Stay up with him as well on all the socials and we’ll see you all on Saturday at The Bell House.

FOTR this week is Annie Mac. She’s one of the most prominent radio DJ personalities in the world and who can really imagine BBC Radio 1 without her. Over the last decade, she’s made a name for herself off the air as well as a club dj, tastemaker, talent-finder and just an overall champion of new music. Over the last couple of years, she’s launched her own festival (AMP Lost & Found) and released her debut compilation album last year. Maybe this As she continues to be a trailblazer, she’s still holding down her weekly shows at BBC Radio 1 Monday – Friday. Last night featured a magnificent interview with Four Tet that you check below. Make sure to click some links and stay connected as well. Maybe she’ll bring back Free Music Monday’s at some point as well. 🙂

FOTR this week is Prince Klassen. He’s a regular guest at The Rub and a top shelf FOTR if there ever was one. He moved out of NY at the end of 2016 and there was a short time where it was unknown if he was going to maintain his presence out our monthly event at The Bell House. Thankfully, things have settled in on a bit of normalcy and Prince Klassen has been a part of almost every Rub party so far in 2017. With his regularly scheduled monthly visits now, he’s been playing other parties and keeping up with his Wild Combinations Mix series out at Lot Radio. Check out his most recent mix below and click on some of his socials to keep tabs with our bud.
