Cosmo says “So basically it started out as a joke between me and my homeboy 4th Pyramid. Hanging out in downtown Manhattan one evening, we decided to come up with a funk / rap group, and Sheen Brothers was born. Like I said, it was all kind of in fun, but then after a couple shows and some recording things actually got serious. So with dedication and focus, Sheen Bros is a full on go.”
“Now this here it is, the one and only Sheen Bros “Scumbag Funk Volume 2″ mixed by yours truly. It’s 40+ minutes of nothing but that afrosheen. This is just the precursor, as we have an EP of original material setting to drop in spring of 2010 as well as a full length LP later on in the year, featuring an insane lineup of some legendary guests.”
“Check the download link for Volume 2 below, and you can click here for a link to Volume 1, mixed by 4th Pyramid. Special shouts to the following people for helping make Volume 2: 4th Pyramid, Tamir, Z. Brown, Mark Lowyns, Raj Mahal, Bird Peterson, Justin Torres, Dante Ross, DJ Nu-Mark, 7l & DJ Beyonder, Stretch Armstrong & Eli Escobar.”

We interviewed DJ Tameil on our radio show a few months back, and he used some of the footage for his new Bedrock Groove video.

The Twelve 12″s series is back once again, and after last months epic mix from Cosmo Baker, who else could we have followed it with, but the final third of The Rub crew and appropriately for the eleventh installment – DJ Eleven!
Go to Southern Hospitality to download DJ Eleven’s all vinyl tribute to DJ Premier.
This month The Rub welcomes two big guests! Pilooski travels all the way from Paris to play a super left-field DJ set, dropping everything from deep Bollywood cuts to his own exclusive disco edits, and graces us with an interview to boot. Then Eli Escobar drops in to talk about his unique approach to remixes and original house tracks along with reminiscing about growing up in the rich musical environment that was Manhattan in the 80s and 90s. Listen right here:
We’ve got DJ Nu-Mark (formerly of Jurassic 5) at The Rub this Saturday. In August 2008, Cosmo and I saw Nu-Mark play for 3000 people at a massive rave in Canada. I went into it thinking he would be playing indy rap and weird breaks, scratching a lot and playing goofy instruments and toys, but what we saw was one of the best DJ sets we’ve ever witnessed. He played an incredibly diverse, classy set with tons of my all time favorite classics and some obscure face-melting pieces thrown in here and there – it was full of those moments where you think, ” this is why I started DJing.” Ever since then, Nu-Mark has been on our wish list for The Rub and we’ve finally got him. Here is a live set from LA’s legendary Do-Over party; Cosmo played the same day and came out saying “Lord have mercy, Nu-Mark is a f*cking beast!”

The legendary producer DJ Zinc (of Super Sharp Shooter fame) has a new EP out called The Crackhouse. It is wall to wall bangers, but this song in particular jumped out at me when Fake Blood put it on his Essential mix earlier in the year. Well it’s out now, and Zinc’s people gave us the go ahead to post it up, so here you go!

And here is a mixed sampler of the whole EP.
If you weren’t at The Rub on Halloween, you might as well kill your own self. If you were, we probably took a picture of you!
Cosmo has just recorded a set for Southern Hospitality’s Twelve 12s vinyl mix series. Go read about it and download it at their blog.
