Last up, is up-and-coming producer Owen Bones with the first single on his upcoming release. “Mach Five” features guest shots from Tunji Ige and lil aaron. Stream all 3 in full below.
#TBT – The Rub – History of Hip-Hop 2009

TBT this week to 2009 and The Rub’s History of Hip-Hop from that wonderful year. Uptempo party rap had become very much a thing with Pitbull, LMFAO, Kid Sister and Chelley but the South’s imprint was so strong that one-hit wonders on the pop breakthrough tip had become very common place (see Hurricane Chris, GS Boyz, New Boyz, etc). Jay-Z had his first #1 hit ever with “Empire State of Mind”. Lil’ Wayne and Young Money ruled the airwaves completely. And Drake was this new star from that camp that everyone still new better as Wheelchair Jimmy. Most everyone was just surprised any rapper from Canada could matter on the charts. Revisit this mix in full above and peep the tracklist below.

FOTR: Dirty South Joe

FOTR this week is Dirty South Joe. This dude has been repping Philly in a big way for a long time. Mad Decent, Armand’s, Mad Decent Block Party (when it was just a 1 day event in Philly) and Hollerboard are just some of the things DSJ laid his early marks on and he’s been on a solid roll of doing dope stuff ever since. He’s been steady influential on the careers of the entire Brick Bandits crew. His Luvstep mix series with Flufftronix has played a big roll in the more chilled sounds of bass music breaking through to the masses. His “So Far Gone” Drake night has taken off in the last couple years and is now a traveling party. Oh…and he’s got dank memes for days. Check out his mix for Feel Good Records from last year and link up with Joe on his socials as well.

TNN is back after a week off last week and just in time to welcome in fall (aka 4th quarter). It’s been heavy hitters dropping great music all year but 4th quarter always seems to bring them out tenfold. Kicking it off is a brand new one from recently reunited group, The Cool Kids. This sounds hard, focused and really impressive. Secondly, in what’s probably even bigger news, we’ve got the audio to back up the story from last month about The Weeknd and Daft Punk working together. “Starboy” is going to pop in a major way. There’s no other way around it. Finally, we’ve got the first single from the upcoming NxWorries LP, which is the duo made up of 2016 breakout star Anderson .Paak with his producer partner, Knxwledge. Stream all 3 tunes in full below.
