FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week and one of our guests Saturday night at The Bell House is Brooklyn’s DJ Run P. Run is about as accomplished as they come and would much rather talk to you about “the experience” before anything else. This dude certainly knows his samples as well, since he was given his first set of turntables at the age of 11 and has been a self-proclaimed student of music ever since. Check out some of his links below as well as this recent mix from this past 4th of July and don’t miss his set this Saturday for The Rub.

Thanksgiving week is upon us and of course the 4th quarter flood of new music continues to come in. Interesting new stuff this week to share with you from Tkay Maidza (produced by Baauer, What So Not & George Maple), ILoveMakonnen with Santigold and FKi and Chrissy with Miles Bonny. A bit of a collaboration flavor to this week’s picks if you will. Stream all 3 of these new tasty musical treats below.
Rub Radio – Luv U Better Mix by Brooklyn Radio on Mixcloud
While this was originally released a couple years ago as a Valentine’s Day themed mix, the stress of the recent political climate and flood of opinions on social media made love seem like something very important was being overtly ignored. Enter today’s #TBT mix in this Luv U Better Mix for THUMP that’s loaded with so much amazing late 90’s and early 00’s R&B bangers, it should immediately improve your mood. Guessing you’ll be reminiscing quite heavy as well…

#TNN (That New New) shows up a couple days late this week but that doesn’t mean there’s any shortage of cool and interesting new music out there. We’ve got one of my favorite cuts from Justin Bieber’s newly released album that’s quite good in it’s entirety (you read that right). Also there’s a banger from Young Thug’s new Slime Season 2 mixtape. Lastly, and more on the offbeat tip, is the new EP from the 333 Boyz. Click some links below and do some listening.

#FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is one of our guests at The Bell House on the 28th and Canada’s very own, DJ Pump. Truly one of the country’s best secrets, Pump is one of our favorite DJs who knows exactly when to flex on the turntablism and when to rock it strictly for the party. His accolades include being a Canadian DMC and ITF battle champion and his mixtapes are always a very entertaining listen. Case in point, his fairly recent “New Topic 3” mix below, which is a stimulating listen of new and old-school boom bap with Pump’s ever present flair. Check it out along with all his socials below and make sure to catch Pump later this month in BK for The Rub!

#FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is our headlining guest for Friday’s The Rub at Verboten, DJ Cipha Sounds. If you don’t already know, Cipha is a true hip-hop legend in NY. Whether it’s via his serious DJ skills, his long run as a personality at Hot 97 or his various A & R work for a number of record labels (Def Jam, Rawkus, Star Trak), he’s left his mark in so many ways. As he continues to expand his brand now into stand up comedy and improv, Cipha stops through the booth at Verboten to bless us with what promises to be a DJ set to remember. Check out his amazing Tribute to ’93 hip-hop mix below and make sure to catch his set this Friday night.

Even in the internet age of artists seemingly releasing music at will these days, this time of year always sees a crazy flood of new content and we frequently see it from some heavy hitters. This past week was no different. We saw a surprise new LP from Rustie and got a first glimpse of a new record from Santigold. Add in a spicy piece of melodic kuduro from Ckrono & Slesh via Enchufada and you’ve got this week’s #TNN (That New New). Enjoy some tasty audio treats from all 3 below.

Our FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week and one of our special guests on at our November party at Verboten is Santurce, Puerto Rico’s finest: DJ Velcro. In addition to being an accomplished MC and producer, Velcro is also a versatile DJ who smashes parties. If you’re ever in San Juan, PR on a Monday night, you NEED to stop through his long running weekly party.
Check out his most recent mix El Nocaut and get ready to hear him rock on Friday, November 13th with us at Verboten.

Hey friends. It’s been a minute since our last #TNN (That New New) and while we’ve been collectively very busy, there’s certainly been no shortage in exciting and interesting music being released. We’ve actually got 3 recent tunes to feature for you…all from relatively bigger industry names as well. It is very much 4th quarter now, so the big guns are out there firing. Here’s new ones from Grimes, Chance The Rapper (with some production help from Lido) and an official new Blood Orange sighting. Enjoy!
