#TNN (That New New) shows up a couple days late this week but that doesn’t mean there’s any shortage of cool and interesting new music out there. Truly one of the country’s best secrets, Pump is one of our favorite DJs who knows exactly when to flex on the turntablism and when to rock it strictly for the party. His accolades include being a Canadian DMC and ITF battle champion and his mixtapes are always a very entertaining listen. Case in point, his fairly recent “New Topic 3” mix below, which is a stimulating listen of new and old-school boom bap with Pump’s ever present flair. #FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is our headlining guest for Friday’s The Rub at Verboten, DJ Cipha Sounds. If you don’t already know, Cipha is a true hip-hop legend in NY. Whether it’s via his serious DJ skills, his long run as a personality at Hot 97 or his various A & R work for a number of record labels (Def Jam, Rawkus, Star Trak), he’s left his mark in so many ways. As he continues to expand his brand now into stand up comedy and improv, Cipha stops through the booth at Verboten to bless us with what promises to be a DJ set to remember.
