10/31 – Skip-the-line-tickets

We’ve got 100 skip-the-line tickets for tomorrow night’s annual Halloween party and they’re vanishing very fast. $15 (all in…no fees) jumps you ghouls right past a long wait in line, regardless of when you show up to The Bell House. Otherwise, The Rub line is always a zombie apocalypse by 11:00 pm. So if you don’t want to end up in hell and don’t jump at this deal, you’re unfortunately stuck having to come out early to avoid the scary slaughter. Doors open at 9 pm. Special guest this month is the always haunting DJ Sure Shot.

FOTR: DJ Sure Shot

#FOTR this week is DJ Sure Shot, a longtime homie and collaborator. He’s been holding down NY for a decade plus on the club and private event circuit and is easily one of our favorite DJ’s in the city. Notorious for his open format deftness and ear for the right track and mix at the right time, he’s received official nods from the likes of Diplo, Mark Ronson and Nick Catchdubs…who called Sure Shot’s “Heavy Warmup 4” set below his “favorite mix of the year” in 2011. Click some links, peep this great Neptunes tribute mix and make sure to join us at the Bell House Saturday for our annual Halloween jump off.

FOTR: Matthew Africa

This week, we have a very special #FOTR post. When we kicked off this series in 2012, the first friend we wanted to show our love and respect for was Matthew Africa. Check out that first FOTR post here.

It’s been 3 years since we lost Matthew. In celebration of his birthday this Friday, October 23rd, a handful of his friends (and biggest fans) are releasing a series of mixes called #ThankYouMatthewAfrica. One mix will be dropping each day this week as we count the days until his birthday and stay celebrating his life, his influence, and the music he shared with us all.

We mentioned these two former Thre3style World Champions a couple weeks back as the latest World Finals were being held in Tokyo. Now we finally get to see these two shred Verboten on 4 decks this Friday night. Both DJs have been FOTR’s (Friends of The Rub) for some time now and to have them in the same room throwing down together for The Rub has us on special level of being geeked. Peep a couple of recent mixes from these dudes and link up with them on the socials. And definitely don’t miss the festivities this Friday at Verboten.

All cats everything. Cop the full Meow The Jewels project here.

Interesting new production project from the Midwest featuring Reggie B on vocals. Debut album is due out on Laruche Records on 10/12.

PC Music artist Sophie’s latest crazy single that’s more IDM raved out trap than you might expect.

Rubble Kings – The Mixtape

In case you missed it, Rubble Kings is a recently released documentary about the war torn gang era of NY from 1968 to 1975 that was fueled by failing race relations and an overall “unfocused rage”. The movie focused on the events during this time period that broke down these walls and ultimately gave birth to hip-hop culture. Just this week saw the release of Rubble Kings – The Mixtape which effortlessly showcases the amazingly powerful music of this time period from all walks of life. Director Shan Nicholson enlisted the help of additional Rub homies Sammy Needlz, Rok One and DJ Tahleim to put this amazing project together and give this documentary a proper soundtrack. Listen to and download this fantastic mix below.

FOTR: Star Eyes

FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is bass music queen and, one of our special guest for the next party at Verboten, is Star Eyes. She’s been an integral part of Trouble & Bass (RIP) and has been killing it steady for the Red Bull Music Academy in more ways than one. We’re so stoked to have her DJ with us on the 9th and you can preview some of her “Night Bass” type things via a B2B set with Petey Clicks from earlier in the year below. Make sure and cop your presale tickets for the next party at Verboten HERE.

FOTR: DJ Tap 10

We’re joined this month at The Rub at the Bell House by one of our favorite Bay Area transplants to Brooklyn, HNRL representative DJ Tap 10.  A great dude with impeccable taste and a killer instinct when he’s rocking a party, you definitely don’t want to miss his debut at The Rub this Saturday.  To get your mind right, check out volumes 1 & 2 of his “Hoodrat Tendencies” mix series and then slide into “Champagne Soul” when you’re ready to smooth it out.
