So we let you know earlier this week that Four Color Zack & Hedspin are our next headliners at Verboten on October 9th. It just so happens that this week is the World Finals of Red Bull’s Thre3style competition in Tokyo and these two world champions are in attendance as judges. This great interview piece with the two of them dropped this week as well. Best of luck to all the competitors and make sure to grab tickets HERE for October 9th.

#TBT The Rub – Hip Hop History 2002 Mix
Posted: September 17, 2015 Filed under: TBT | Tags: DJ Eleven, TBT, the rub
The Rub’s History of Hip Hop series was an extremely ambitious mixtape project to take on but like always, these mixtapes are curated and mixed with absolute precision. Of course, leave the 2002 version of this series to be one of my favorites and it’s our #TBT mix for the week. Seriously though, 2002 was an amazing year for rap with Cam’ron’s Rocafella debut, Clipse flipping everyone on their ear with their first officially released LP, Scarface dropped a classic in The Fix and so many of the big party cuts became instant classics. Revisit this stellar mix with a stream or a download below.

DJ mOma has been a friend of The Rub for almost as long as The Rub has existed and he’s rocked the party more times than we can count. A Queen representer to the end, Mo killed this all Q Borough mix on Sway in the Morning a couple weeks ago. Always ahead of the curve, always on point musically, and always moving the crowd, catch mOma at his wildly successful Everyday People party, at Le Bain on Wednesdays with Eli Escobar, or at any of the great nights he does around NYC, on the east & west coasts, and all over the world.

Last week we gave you a huge shot of new music in the form of Rub Radio and this week we’re back with TNN (That New New). Travis Scott’s new LP has dropped and is full of big tunes. One of my favs from the album, which features Quavo from Migos, is below. Treasure Fingers has released a collection of remixes of his latest single on his new label with MSCLS chiming in with some crazy breed of future house that’s very tasty. Escort continues to evolve, dropping a handful of gems in the buildup to their new album. Last we’ve got a tune from Motin, who just released a great new Latin club flavored EP on Discos Peligrosa.

Our 2nd FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week and one of our special guests this Friday at Verboten is New York DJ staple, DJ Wonder. Whether it’s been through his radio work over the years at Hot 97, and now at Shade45 with Sway In The Morning, or his constant array of high profile club gigs, Wonder always seems to be on the grind. We’re very stoked to have him throw down his always unique blend of hip-hop, dance music and scratching in a party setting. Check his recent #SUMMERFRIDAYS mix from a couple months ago below and don’t his is set this Friday!

So it’s officially Rub week again for our new event at Verboten and we’ve got a massively stacked lineup for this Friday. Our headliner and a longtime FOTR (Friend of The Rub) is DJ Craze, who in all honesty should need no introduction. Straight up, he’s one of the best DJ’s on the planet. End of story. He and fellow FOTR Fourcolorzack released a new mix last week going at the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ list and all that it represents. It’s featured below and definitely worth the listen. It’s a great conversation piece in response to all the “press play” DJs out there. And definitely do not miss Craze shutting down Verboten along with Sammy Bananas and DJ Wonder this Friday.

FOTR: Sammy Bananas

Our FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is our longtime friend, Sammy Bananas. He’ll be joining us on Sept. 11 for our next edition of The Rub at Verboten. Sammy has been a homie since way back in the Certified Bananas days and he’s made some great records over the past several years to supplant his status as a very talented producer. His DJ sets have always been so fun as well and we’re stoked to have him on the bill for next Friday. Check out this great mix below he did at the Mixpak HQ earlier this year and don’t miss his set on the 11th!

A new week and some more cool new music to share with you all. The boss man Ayres slides through this week with a couple of picks and some words as to why he’s feeling them. Take a listen!
FKA Twigs – M3LL155X EP
Dope production on this one, and it’s a little more “weird and good” IMO, as opposed to “weird for the sake of being weird” like some of her earlier stuff. Plus it comes with a pretty terrific 16 minute video.
Aeroplane – Page One Is Love
Aeroplane hits our sweet spot almost every time – groovy enough to draw us in, and always perfect for that 11:45 PM in the club, heavy warmup house set.
Round 2 of our new monthly at Verboten has been announced with DJ Craze, DJ Wonder and Sammy Bananas as our special guests. Friday, September 11, $20 presale tickets, North 11th and Wythe.
