We took a week off from TNN as we recovered from the righteous and wild 14 year anniversary festivities of a couple weeks back. Bless the internet and the creative types for continuing to hold it down as it was easy to get back into the new music discovery flow this week. First up, we’ve got a new 2 Chainz mixtape and it’s dope. “Chirp” is an early fav and it’s just as ridiculous as it is amazing. Next, we’ve got a funky new midtempo joint from Miguel as he’s becoming an incredibly consistent bet with his music at this point. Finally, we’ve got a new single from D.R.A.M. and it’s got a little happy go lucky anthem type feel to it as it’s a shout out to all the “Cute” ladies out there. Stream all three in full below.
#TBT this week goes to DJ Eleven and the 3rd volume in his Soul series. Per usual, Eleven is diving in deep from an era perspective while maintaining a very fluid vibe to appropriately keep the soulful feel at a high level. This 3rd installment features such a wide array of artists and sounds but mixes it all so tastefully. There aren’t many mixtapes where Trick Daddy and Toto sit so comfortably next to Marvin Gaye and Darius Rucker. Yeah, you read all that right. Sit back, kick off your shoes and revisit this one below today with a forecast heavy on all the Soul.

FOTR this week is Kenny Rodriguez. He’s been a staple in NY for almost a decade taking photos at all your favorite public and private events. The Rub has been in his very capable eyes and hands so many times we’ve lost count. You can also see him on the reg shooting other NY standard parties like Tiki Disco and Freedom Party, among others. We were privileged to have him shoot our 14th anniversary party this past Saturday and he knocked it out of the park yet again. In 2005 we made a mix CD with a bunch of our blends, and it took off like a rocket, selling worldwide and garnering a ton of praise from music magazines and even the New York Times. So much so that a lot of people thought of The Rub as a “mash-up party” and we traveled the world playing clubs in this style. Over the next four years, we released two more mixes in the “It’s the Motherfucking Remix” series, and created a spinoff vinyl collection. As we’re celebrating our 14 year anniversary this Saturday, we thought we’d re-up the entire mix series. A huge shout out to all of our guest DJs at the party over the years who gave us remixes for the CDs, and special thanks to Nick Catchdubs and Four Color Zack for making the artwork.

FOTR this week is DJ Sober out of Ft. Worth, TX. He’s also our special guest for our 14 year anniversary party this Saturday at The Bell House. Sober has been steady carving his name out in the Lone Star state for years and it’s safe to say the scene wouldn’t be what it is without him. He’s been part of long running parties such as “The Party” and “Big Bang!” and made a name for himself spinning major sporting events and traveling all over the country. He’s coming to NY to rock the front room this Saturday to celebrate this special night with us. Check out his Satin Sheets Vol. 5 from earlier this year and make sure you catch his set Saturday night as we ring in year 14.

Another week and another big week of new tunes to digest. We’re diving right into anniversary week with a nice burst of new new to share so let’s get right to it. First up is the new one from Major Lazer. They (Diplo) has been teasing that there was a collab with Justin Bieber on the way and it’s finally here. Also featuring MØ and it will be hard to get in the way of what’s sure to be another huge global hit. Second up is a new one from PARTYNEXTDOOR. This OVO artist has announced his 2nd LP due in a couple weeks and “Not Nice” continues on some of the tropical vibes he contributed to Drake’s ‘Views’. Lastly, we’ve got a new one from Flamingosis. This sample heavy beatmaker is always thick on the funk and fun and his latest LP is due this week. Check out “Magic” from him while we wait for the new album to drop.
