Rub Radio February 2016 – Rok One Edition
Posted: February 17, 2016 Filed under: Rub Radio | Tags: Rok One, Rub RadioOur guest at The Rub this month is our old friend Rok One. Because he has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things rap related and makes great mixes, we thought he’d be the perfect person to make an Anti-Valentine’s Day mix. If you believe in holding grudges against exes who did you wrong, lyrics explicitly airing your awkward sexual predictions (hi Kanye!), and a general hostility towards the opposite sex, you’re gonna love this one!

Earlier in the week also saw a preview of a new one from James Blake which should give you immediate chills. Wrapping up this week’s edition is a tasty new midtempo tropical joint from Love Taps. Yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of the death of one of the most innovative producers and artists in the history of hip-hop. J Dilla (aka Jay Dee) recorded and released an insane amount of inspiring music during his time on this earth and to give it up to this legend, today for #TBT we feature DJ Morse Code and his insane hour long tribute mix he dropped from last year. Full stream and download available below so you can reminisce this great catalog of music as well.

FOTR this week is Austin’s DJ Mel. Mel’s been holding anything and everything down in Austin for what literally feels like forever. Whether it’s been his Rock The Casbah 80’s themed special events, his insanely long running weekly Monday party at Nasty’s or being the official DJ for University of Texas Longhorns basketball, he’s certainly embedded himself in Austin’s music scene. What’s brought him to a national stage in recent years is his work djing events for President Obama in the past and now for Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. You may have seen and heard him dropping classic tunes on the Iowa Caucus TV and online coverage last week. Check out a recent mix from Mel and all the links to his socials below.
