FOTR this week is Risk One. The Bay Area native unfortunately lost his life to cancer back in September and the DJ community has been mourning his loss ever since. He was immensely loved by his friends and peers and he was always a blast to catch behind the decks. Hollerboard alumni, Crooklyn Clan top seller and working DJ world traveler…he made people smile everywhere he would go. Tonight, many of his friends and loved ones will be gathering to celebrate his life in Dolores Park, San Francisco. We remember him today by sharing his last mix he posted and all of his links below. RIP Marques Lewis aka Risk One.

TNN is back this week after a week off and we’re officially closing out November as well as getting so close to the end of this tumultuous year. Some big guns have unloaded with new releases in the last week or so and there definitely seems to be a feel of nostalgic sounds in the air, at least in the pop world. First up this week is a new one from The Weeknd’s polarizing new LP. “A Lonely Night” is one of the many contributions from Max Martin on the album and easily one of the stand out cuts (*EDIT-Full album from The Weeknd has been added*). Next is a last week hold over from the retro fitted new (super short) Bruno Mars full length. “Finesse” sounds like it’s straight out of the Bell Biv Devoe catalog. Finally, we’ve got a cut from the recently dropped collab EP from Gucci Mane and Lil Uzi Vert. Stream all 3 in full below.

FOTR this week is our special guest again this upcoming Saturday, Rok One. Rok is simply a staple of NY nightlife and one of our favorite djs in the city. He’s been a guest of The Rub too many times to count now and it’s always a pleasure to have him play with us because he’s such a solid DJ! Whether it’s rocking at The Woods, private events all over the city or knocking out original productions with his Black Russian project, Rok is always bringing the goods. Case in point…check out Rok’s latest mix below and make sure to stay up with all of his relevant socials.

TNN is back in the fold this week after a week off and we’ve got some big records to share with you. It was literally a challenge to limit it to just 3 this week but here goes. First up is the official video to A Tribe Called Quest’s “We The People”, the lead single to their first LP in 18 years that went straight to #1 on the Billboard Top 200. Next, we’ve got a surprisingly great new sound to feature from Childish Gambino. He’s apparently ditched the rap in favor of some Prince and Funkadelic type vibes and the results are shockingly very dope. Finally, we’ve got a favorite album cut from the recently released new LP from Justice. Stream all 3 in full below.

#TBT – The Rub – History of Hip-Hop 1997

TBT today to our History of Hip-Hop Mix from 1997. This year is easily identified as a cornerstone year of golden era hip-hop. Some of the greats laid down some bonafied classics in this 12 month period and they are clearly represented in this mix. Biggie flexed with the release of “Life After Death” right after he was lost to a senseless murder. Wu Tang returned with their second full length as fans went full blown nutso. Gang Starr dropped another classic LP. Master P solidified a full blown No Limit movement with the release of “Ghetto D”. Mase, MF Doom, The Beatnuts, Redman and more solidified their place in the scene with top shelf tunes as well. Check the mix in full below by stream or download.

TNN is back this week for the first Monday in November (jeezus it’s November already) and as always, there’s some cool new music to share. In what feels like a bit of a warm up week leading up to the 4th quarter impending rush of new releases, we’ve got a handful of noteworthy things to tied us over. First up is a new one from two of the biggest stars on the planet in Future and Drake. They toured together a good portion of the year and it’s a surprise to no one that they release more music together. Second, we’ve got a new one from Ninja Tune mainstay Bonobo who’s got a new album dropping right around the corner. This first single and video is a great first taste. Finally, we’ve got a full EP drop from Sluggers on Fool’s Gold, one of the more interesting names in currently in weird and banging house music. Check out all 3 releases below.
