I’m excited to be posting about the newest release from my latest venture, 11 Inch Records.

DJ Apt One is 1/2 of RCMP, 1/2 of the Philadelphyinz with our very own Skinny Friedman (who just dropped a great EP), 1/3 of Young Robots, and a dude who brings the heat. I’ll let Apt tell you more: “I’ve had a grip of disco cuts in storage for a time, waiting for the moment to show people that it’s ok to be deep as long as you stay funky.”  Now is that time!  Head over to iTunes, Juno, or Gigacrate to cop it while it’s hot.  (TurntableLab & Amazon, etc. links to follow shortly.)

003

And if you’re in New York this Thursday, July 15th, come through to join me in welcoming Apt One to FAM (at Von – 3 Bleecker Street in the basement) to celebrate this release.  We’ll be throwing down from 9PM – 3AM & it’s always free.

Hip-Hop History: Great Minds Think Alike

schoolbooks

While we’re in the middle of another 10 years of hip-hop history, it’s as good a time as any to give a shout out to a group of like-minded DJs over in Europe. Rap History is a party series, helmed by a collective of DJs who make yearly mixes, make posters and zines to go with them, then box them up and give them away at the parties. I played in Warsaw in the spring and DJ Steez gave me a bunch of boxes to bring back to the US. They even included DJ Eleven’s 1982 mix, with our permission. The whole enterprise is super thorough, with chapters in Berlin, Warsaw, Munich and Zurich.

Here is 1984, mixed by DJ DeJoe from Berlin:
