FOTR: Fool’s Gold Records
Posted: April 5, 2016 Filed under: Friends of The Rub | Tags: Fool's Gold, fotr
FOTR this week is the team that is Fool’s Gold Records. Founded by A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs and Dust La Rock (RIP) in 2007, they’ve branded themselves as a true innovator and tastemaker in terms of the music they release and how they present themselves as an entity in the business. They’ve always been super supportive of The Rub and we sincerely love them for it. This past Friday they released a massive new compilation, Night Shift, that’s bursting with new dancefloor focused heaters from label heads A-Trak and Catchdubs, as well as other notables like Sammy Bananas, Brenmar, Gladiator, Rome Fortune, Alvin Risk, and many more. Peep Night Shift in full below and make sure to link up with Fool’s Gold on the socials if you haven’t already.

It’s been a couple weeks since we’ve put up a #TNN. But now that Spring is fully in session and there are certainly releases dropping in droves right now, all seemingly in effort to position themselves as the song of Summer 2016. While we can’t yet put that tag on something and know it to be true, we’ve got some goodies featured this week that are definitely worth the listen (and possible repeat addictive listen). Drake had a couple tunes leak last week in preparation for his upcoming studio album, the standout being the dancehall influenced “Controlla” featuring Popcaan. Snakehips dropped their latest single featuring the early nomination for breakout artist of the year in Anderson .Paak. And finally, even though it’s been out a couple weeks now, there’s the debut mixtape from Bay Area’s Kamaiyah…which is literally aces from start to finish. Peep everything in full below.

#TBT – The Rub – History of Hip-Hop 2006
Posted: March 31, 2016 Filed under: History of Hip-Hop, TBT | Tags: History Of Hip-Hop, TBT, the rub#TBT this week is the History of Hip-Hop mix from 2006. It’s truly hard to believe these tracks are 10 years old at this point since so many of them still get heavy rotation in so many DJ sets. Forever anthems in here from Rick Ross, T.I., Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, E-40, Clipse and many more. It’s arguable that some of these rappers became icons with their hit tunes from 2006. Either way you feel on that, fact is this mix is loaded with 10 year old fire tunes and well worth the revisit below.

FOTR: DJ Nick Bike

FOTR this week is the Vancouver based DJ Nick Bike. He’s a technically gifted open format DJ who’s a two-time regional winner in Red Bull’s Thre3style competition and he’s cranked out a number of bootlegs that have received support Z-Trip, Skratch Bastid, Four Color Zack and Grandtheft. What may be the most fun part of his resume though is his 45 game. Whether it’s the four he’s personally released (one in collaboration DJ Hedspin) or his ability to mix them in the most deft way, he’s got a knack for making these records really sing. Check out his recent all 45 mix for The Motown Party at The Fox Cabaret for proof below along with his other links to keep tabs on all his moves.
