As Labor Day weekend is now upon us and summer has so quickly started coming to an end, it only makes sense to revisit the “Summer of The Rub” mix on the #TBT tip as it’s classic sounds seem to forever encapsulate this time of year so well. Timeless rock and soul proliferate this mix with the kind of vibes and flow you’ve come to expect from Ayres and Eleven. This is one to turn on loud this weekend and completely kick back to. We all hope your summer was as enjoyable as ours.

FOTR: Sammy Bananas

Our FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is our longtime friend, Sammy Bananas. He’ll be joining us on Sept. 11 for our next edition of The Rub at Verboten. Sammy has been a homie since way back in the Certified Bananas days and he’s made some great records over the past several years to supplant his status as a very talented producer. His DJ sets have always been so fun as well and we’re stoked to have him on the bill for next Friday. Check out this great mix below he did at the Mixpak HQ earlier this year and don’t miss his set on the 11th!

8.31 – That New New

A new week and some more cool new music to share with you all. The boss man Ayres slides through this week with a couple of picks and some words as to why he’s feeling them. Take a listen!

FKA Twigs – M3LL155X EP

Dope production on this one, and it’s a little more “weird and good” IMO, as opposed to “weird for the sake of being weird” like some of her earlier stuff. Plus it comes with a pretty terrific 16 minute video.

Aeroplane – Page One Is Love

Aeroplane hits our sweet spot almost every time – groovy enough to draw us in, and always perfect for that 11:45 PM in the club, heavy warmup house set.

We’ve got 100 skip-the-line tickets for tomorrow night’s party and they’re going very fast. $15 (all in…no fees) jumps you right past a long wait in line, regardless of when you show up to The Bell House. Otherwise, The Rub line is always a roadblock by 11:00 pm. So if you don’t want to wait and don’t jump at this deal, you’re unfortunately stuck having to come out early to avoid the chaos. Special guests this month are Friendly Greg and Scott Matelic.

FOTR: Friendly Greg

unnamed

Our 2nd and final FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week is Friendly Greg. He’s been an NY DJ staple for some time now, opening up for and playing with a who’s who of dope people who make music. Some quick googling will also reveal that he started the very cool Panda Toes (R.I.P.) blog years ago and has his name tied to some very influential events while in college at Dartmouth in the late ’00s. We’re stoked to have him play some tunes with us at The Bell House on Saturday and a quick listen to any of his mixes, like the one below, will show you why.

FOTR: Scott Matelic

Our first FOTR (Friend of The Rub) this week and one of our guests this Saturday for The Rub at The Bell House, is Scott Matelic. Scott’s been in NY (via Indianapolis) now for a number of years now and has guested with us at The Rub in the past. His DJing style is one of our favorites in the city and we’re so psyched to have him back at the party. His production skills are nothing to sneeze at as well. Check out his tough new co-production with Patrick Stuckey for The Comdot below and make sure to put Saturday’s festivities on your calendar.

8.23 – That New New

Two new ones to share with you today for TNN (That New New) that may or may not be David Lee Roth & Madonna approved. First up is a new original from long time Rub homie, Tittsworth. “Ha-Ta-Dan” is a tribal type house banger with guest vocals from none other than dancehall legends T.O.K. and it’s out now on Zulu Records. Second is a heady future house type of cut from new Fool’s Gold artist, Madeaux, who’s got a massive debut EP for the label dropping next month. Stream both new jams below. We think you’ll be glad you did.

#TBT DJ Ayres – DJ Ayres’s Laboratory

So in 2012, Ayres dropped a nice little series of mixes with the insanely talented Mike 2600 designing all the cover art. For today’s #TBT we revisit the DJ Ayres’s Laboratory set that’s loaded with catchy indie dance tunes, remixed pop gems and some tastefully turnt levels towards the end. Ace as always. Stream and download this one below.
