FOTR: Back To Life NYC

Our first time party crew holding down the front room at The Bell House this Saturday is Back To Life NYC. Born in the LES back in 2015, Khalil, Pauli Lovejoy and Move Forward Music have cultivated a party that brings the vibe of London’s vibrant night life and vibe to NYC. Past guests have included Sampha, Roska, NAO, Just Blaze, Idris Elba, DJ Spinna and many more. We’re stoked to bring them to The Rub and have them rock the front room Saturday night. FOTR: Zephyr Ann

Our second special guest on Saturday, making her debut in the main room, is Zephyr Ann. She’s an active member in all things culture in NY (by way of Cambridge, Massachusetts) and has been flexing here for some time now. Whether it’s via her DJing, a long stint working at Turntable Lab, contributing think pieces for Okayplayer or teaching youth with the Building Beats team, Zephyr is constantly sharing her voice about things she loves in a very passionate and dedicated way. She’s played rooms all over the city like House of Yes, Good Room, Our Wicked Lady, Mad Tropical and more and we’re so stoked to have her come open and close the main with us this Saturday at The Bell House. Check out a January mix from her at Le Bain in addition to all her relevant links below. And don’t miss her on the decks this Saturday at The Rub!

FOTR: Brooklyn Took It

Rub week for March is finally upon us and our first guests for this month’s event are Brooklyn Took It. They are a party crew here in BK that’s been bringing some really great vibes to the soulful and vibe-friendly party scene since January of 2015. In a reluctant way, the crew of Noms, Rogue and Jamaal Orr formed like voltron to add an exciting monthly event at Friends N Lovers, their home in Bed-Stuy. In short, “Brooklyn Took It is a dance party led by resident DJs Rogue and Noumenon who spin Classic 90’s and early 2000 Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul, Breaks, Disco, and Dancehall. The rules are simple: Come as you are, ready to dance.” Check out a mix from Nom below and don’t miss this crew in the front room this Saturday at The Bell House!

FOTR: Kevlove

Another one of our special guests this Saturday at The Rub is Kevlove. He lives over the Jersey side and has been embedded in the burgeoning nightlife and club culture that’s been developing there. Any quick glance at Kev’s socials and you see that he’s loaded up with a number of gigs every single week whether in Jersey or NY/BK. Kev’s way of playing tunes though is what’s really got us becoming fans of his djing. His M.O. is really encapsulated in this quote: “What is most important to me in DJing or any project I undertake is to genuinely have the love for it. This foundation is imperative because everything else after falls into place – people begin to see your vision, you start connecting and building relationships, and opportunity begins to present itself.” PREACH. Check out his vibe for a preview via his edition of Rub Radio he did for us back in September. Stay connected with him as well on all the socials and we’ll see you all on Saturday at The Bell House.

FOTR: DJ Getlive!

One of our guests for The Rub this month is DJ GetLive! Born and raised in Queens, GetLive! has been djing since 1999 by sneaking into clubs and jumping on the decks at the tender age of 16. He’s quickly become one of our favorite DJs in the city and he’s known for his party rocking djing style that features a diverse and eclectic music selection on top of slick turntable skills that makes classic records you may have forgot about sound incredibly fresh and new again. We let him take over Rub Radio this month and he provided us with a live set from his Donuts are Forever party, an annual tribute to the one and only Dilla. He totally brought the goods on this mix. Peep this and definitely make sure you do not miss his set this Saturday at The Bell House.

FOTR: Sammy Needlz

Our other special guest this month is NY’s own Sammy Needlz. Sammy is Producer/DJ/doer-of-all and is a decade plus staple at Shade45 on SiriusXM with fellow Rub homie Statik Selectah. He’s also traveled all around the world to dj different club scenes and recently he’s started to spread his wings as a budding tour manager for a pretty crazy roster of top shelp EDM talent. Over the past several years, he’s also started to heavily focus on working in the studio further investing in his music skills, whether it’s his own or his A&R efforts on a number of current projects. Behind the decks though, that’s his real claim to fame and we’re expecting him to really come with it on Saturday at the Bell House. Don’t miss him getting down with Uproot Andy in the front room Saturday. For now, bump this live Ice Cream Sundays mix he dropped a couple years ago loaded with so many classics.
