FOTR: #FOMOPARTY

FOTR this week is the trio that has become known as #FOMOPARTY. Tap.10, Darling Chuck and Tha Yell0w R. KEL have been creating a true to life “fear of missing out” scenario with their monthly 4th Friday party at Friends And Lovers as its always at capacity and the pics afterwards always look like a great deal of fun (check their IG below for proof). As they recently celebrated their 2 year anniversary, they’ll be making their crew debut at The Rub this coming Saturday. Check the vibes in their monthly playlist below to get familiar and make sure to get a dose of FOMO at The Bell House Saturday night.

FOTR: Funkontrol

FOTR this week is a new project from some old friends. Skinny Friedman and Scott Melker have united to form Funkontrol. While they’ve been hard a work on music together for awhile now, the project is newly unveiled and shared with the world. They’ve signed the project to Tommy Boy Records and just released their first single, “Banker’s Club”, a couple weeks ago. It’s a brooding and crispy electro influenced hip-hop track that’s really well done. You can stream it below in full as well as click some links to follow the guys. Stay tuned for an LP from them dropping as early as this Summer.

FOTR: Chances With Wolves

Our second FOTR this week and additional special guests at The Bell House this Saturday night is Chances With Wolves. This dj duo made up of Kenan and Kray have been running with CWW as a radio show for going on 9 years now and are way more interested in the vibe than any sort of restricted format. Check out the latest episode of their wonderful show below (a special tribute to Nina Simone at that!) and make sure you check them on the set Saturday night with the rest of the crew!

FOTR: Phi Unit

1 of our FOTR this week is Phi Unit, one of our guests this month for The Rub. Phi has been in BK for a grip now and has certainly made his mark as a DJ and producer. His “So Emotional” mixtape and remix series with other FOTR Cousin Cole is kinda legendary at this point, with their midtempo and tropical flavored flips of vibey love induced cuts. What’s really kept him busy and spreading his wings in recent years is his Building Beats program, which brings music and DJ programs to schools and underprivileged youth. It started out as a NY specific program but has quickly spread with national and international recognition. Check out his Playground Podcast below as well as links to all his relevant urls. And don’t miss Phi at The Bellhouse this coming Saturday!

FOTR: mOma + Guy

FOTR this week is again mOma + Guy. Sure we just featured them a couple months ago with The Rih-Fix and now they are back again with another batch of funky tropical flavored uptempo edits that you basically need in your crates. The “Fake Love” and “Bad & Boujee” flips alone are worth copping here but they all have some flavor. Check the sounds below and jump over to their Bandcamp and “name your price” to snag the full EP.

FOTR: Lauren Flax

FOTR this week is Lauren Flax. Lauren’s been a massive contributor to the electronic dance music scene in NY over the years with her group CREEP and her constant solo efforts. Her productions and DJing are always top notch and she’s one of our favorite people ever as well. She got a chance to flex a bit recently with a new EP release and a fantastic mix on Jubilee’s “The Pre-Game” radio show for THUMP. Her new EP on Nervous Records is out now. Peep the mix with Jubilee and all her relevant links below.

FOTR: Grits And Biscuits

The Rub and our friends at Grits & Biscuits have a lot in common. Both of our parties started at the Southpaw (RIP) in Brooklyn. We both celebrate our anniversaries in July. We’ve both taken our parties all over the world. And we both like DJ Toomp a lot!

In their seventh year of a fantastic run, Grits & Biscuits continues to be NYC’s best southern hip hop party. They do it with a simple formula that never fails: hot & sweaty club, lots of pop-lock-and-droppin’, and a welcoming family vibe. They throw one of our favorite parties, and are good people!

Check out this crazy video of their yearly anniversary block party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pej4TvA8UKI

And come learn more this Friday when we team up to provide us all a much needed mental health break to recuperate from all the craziness of 2016 and the first month of 2017. Grab ticket for that here.

FOTR: Dirtyfinger

FOTR this week is NY DJ Dirtyfinger. He’s definitely one of the hardest working folks in the BK scene and seems to always be rocking somewhere extremely fun whether it’s House of Yes, Tender Trap, Bembe or even overseas backing up the one and only Zebra Katz. You’re guaranteed to have multiple spots to check him every week. Period. And this Saturday he’ll be rocking with us at The Bell House for the January edition of The Rub. Check his fresh mix for #LovelessFM on Lot Radio from last year below. Click some links and give him a follow on the socials as well.

FOTR: Pushermania

FOTR this week is Matt Sonzala aka Pushermania. He’s a legend in Texas and internet circles for repping all things dope in Texas and in general. As a scene developer and influencer, he’s made his mark over the years as a consultant for music oriented companies, artists, labels, festivals, brands and more. He was also a pretty legendary figure in the Hollerboard days and we absolutely have to give him a nod for helping make Sabbath In The Park the celebrated experience it became. He celebrated a birthday yesterday and has been cranking out a great new podcast on the reg. Give the most recent edition a listen below and click some links to keep tabs on what this dude stays up to.
