Str8 West Coastin’ this Saturday

We’re dusting off our khakis & Chucks for the launch of this summer’s Str8 West Coastin’ series on this Saturday, June 16th.  In addition to ringing in Jessica from co-sign and Michelle from Audible Treats’ birthdays, we’re also celebrating the bornday of the one Tupac Shakur.  For such a momentous occasion, Still Life & I had to go big and get fellow Cali transplant J. Period to come through and join us.  Check the flyer for details and the mix to get you in the mood.

Rub Radio with Solidisco

Solidisco hops on the decks on this month’s Rub Radio, with a set of banging disco house including their new releases on Get Right and Young Robots.  And Just Blaze remembers MCA from the Beastie Boys, in an outtake from a longer interview which will air next month as a part of The Rub’s 10 year anniversary show.

Summertime is officially here as our guy DJ Eleven releases his smoothed-out collaboration with Senor Kaos called “Da Bitchez 2012,” a very creative edit of Jeru The Damaja’s 1994 classic “Da Bitchez.” Impossible not to get nostalgic once those horns kick in. Perfect tune for those summertime cruises or BBQ’s.

Words from DJ Eleven: “The homie Señor Kaos and I just dropped our update of Jeru The Damaja’s “Da Bitchez”. In no way meant to disrespect women, we wanted to pay homage to Jeru and DJ Premier’s classic. Now 18 years after its release, Kaos and I re-visited and revamped it. This is the first track off Kaos’ EP, “Mama Said The Sun Rises In The Resurrection”, coming July 3rd, 2012”

Friends of The Rub – Skinny Friedman

“Friends of The Rub” should be called “Family of The Rub” this week as we feature Andy “Skinny” Friedman. Andy has been a long-time associate of ours, creatively, as well as on an administrative level for us behind the scenes. On his own time, he has been working non-stop as a full-time DJ/producer along with running his own record label, Young Robots, with his Philadelphyinz partner DJ Apt-One and our guy DJ Ayres.

Skinny has a big release out today that’s getting support from all over called Trap Rave 2.0.

He’s been heavy into the Moombahton scene since Spring of 2010, but his work stands out from other Moombahtonistas due to his endearing love and knowledge of rap music. All of the tracks on Trap Rave 2.0 are remixes of recent rap hits. The set has a real cohesive feel and all play out real well to even the most finicky of dancefloors.

If you don’t believe us, check out the shout-out he got in Spin Magazine. BAWSE!

Along with the EP release today, he also out out a mix last week called “Rack Skinny Bitch” that bangs so hard.

We offer our full support to an old friend of ours and if you are in New York City this weekend, go rage with him at his EP release party. Pretty good chance he might take his shirt off at some point during this night of debauchery so don’t miss it!

Do-Over Recap

On Sunday we played at our other favorite party, the Do-Over, at Dekalb Market in Brooklyn. The top secret lineup was Pete Rock, DJ Spinna, Monk One and The Rub, and over 2000 people came out despite a forecast for rain. But the weather held out and everyone slayed it, with The Rub batting clean up as the sun went down. Huge shouts to everyone who came out and danced, ate, had a drink or 6, and showed so much love. Be on the look out for another big party at Dekalb later this month. – DJ Ayres

Shout out to The Focus Camp for all of these photos!

Special Guest for June

Oh yea! We’re bringing in a heavy hitter this month as DJ Marvel from The Freshest DJ’s comes into town. We cannot wait for this one!

DJ Ayres – Pattern Recognition Mix for Aritzia

New mix from DJ Ayres for the site Aritzia. Terrific set of tunes that really showcase many new and current artists.

From Ayres: “Here’s a brand new mix of deepness for Aritzia! For this one I put together a set of electronic music with R&B vocals, R&B music with electronic production, and moody UK beats. Very post-future. Everything here is newish with the exception of Dreamer G.”

Tracklist after the jump.

The Rub is this Saturday

Friends of The Rub – Nick Catchdubs

Gonna be an incredible weekend as we bring special guest Nick Catchdubs to play The Rub tomorrow night at The Bell House. Nick has been a long time buddy of ours, playing numerous Rubs with us as well as designing flyers for us along the way.

Nick is one of the hardest working guys we know and an encyclopedia of musical knowledge. He is your go-to guy for just about anything hip-hop related, but it is his work with Fool’s Gold Records that has made this guy a staple in the music community.

Along with co-owner A-Trak, Fool’s Gold Records is hands-down one of the most popular independent record labels around. This past year, the boys struck gold by showcasing a new heavy hitter in rap music, Danny Brown. Their label has also cultivated artists over the years such as Cubic Zirconia, Flosstradamus, The Suzan, Telephoned, and Treasure Fingers.

We’re also big fans of Nick’s remixes and mix tapes throughout the years. He’s always been ahead of the curve in new music and the tracklists for his mixes always spawn lots of google searches. His latest remix below of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” called “USBz in the Trap” is just flat out awesome and you should download this immediately.

Nick is also fantastic at Twitter, so keep up with him HERE

Friends of The Rub – Dave Nada

To say that Dave Nada has come a long way the past couple of years is a crazy understatement. Dave’s always been an incredible DJ (his Baltimore club set at The Rub a few years ago nearly tore Southpaw down), but his ascension into becoming a real pioneer in the dance music scene has been nothing short of remarkable.

The founding father of Moombahton and 1/2 of DJ team Nadastrom, Dave has spent the last two years touring the world while inspiring countless producers and DJ’s to push his white-hot genre of music to new levels. Starting today, he is adding a whole new dynamic to the mix by launching a record label with his partner in crime Matt Nordstrom called Diabluma Sounds.

Dave and Matt’s first release on their label is also from a close pal of The Rub, Maryland native Steve Starks. The EP is entitled “The Burma” and it is a big release for all of those Moombahton heads out there. The percussion on this is just heavy stuff.

Take a listen to the preview below:

It officially comes out today so go cop that on Beatport HERE

We’re happy to help celebrate such an important day for Dave Nada, Matt Nordstrom, and Steve Starks, so go support some of our favorite bros.
