FOTR: Doc Adam

FOTR this week is Doc Adam. This staple of the Pacific Northwest, whether he’s in Seattle or Portland as he seems to migrate between the two, has been around since the Hollerboard days and is still holding court to this day. He’s always playing various different types of parties and rocking numerous styles, something that can be attested to his diverse musical palate. He’s also been a consistent contributor to the DJ edit game over the years. If you ever grabbed any of those edit packs on his Tumblr back in the day, consider yourself lucky to be sitting on that DJ weapon gold. As of late, he’s been steady updating his Heartthis.at page (RIP Doc’s Soundcloud) with new and old edits that are all freely downloadable. He just threw up a bunch of new ones earlier this month and you can peep a small selection below. Click some of those socials and give this dude a follow as well.

7.11 – That New New

TNN is back this week after a week off and we’ve got some big names crashing the new music party once again. While it was a very tumultuous week in a number of ways, the music world came with it and provided us with the continued release it always seems to be there for. First up, there’s Francis & The Lights with features from Kanye West and Bon Iver. You may recognize this tune as a sample from Chance the Rapper’s recent “Coloring Book” mixtape. Second is the Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock & Ab-Soul) remix of Schoolboy Q’s “That Part” and it just makes you feel like rap is in a good place with this crew. Finally, we’ve got a collaboration from M.I.A. and Skrillex, which honestly seemed inevitable at this point. It appears to be another glimpse into her forthcoming new album as well. Peep all 3 tunes in full below.

#TBT – 143 – Seratocast 37 (1-4-3 Means I Love You)

TBT this week is comes from our friends from the 143 crew. This crew loves you and is all about the slow jams, love songs and R&B classics. And those vibes are laced all over this mix they did for the Seratocast mix series. As we mentioned a couple days ago, the DJ combo of Partytime, siik and SOSUPERSAM linked up to kick off this successful event series back in 2013 and they are bringing these feels to Coney Island with us this Saturday at The Coney Island Art Walls from 4-10 pm. Grab your tickets HERE. Until then, kick back and soak in the sounds of Usher, Mariah, 112, Drake and so many more favorites from this mix. This event Saturday promises to be great!

FOTR: 143

FOTR this week is the 143 collective out of LA. Founders Siik, SOSUPERSAM and Partytime created the party in 2013 in effort to create a space for LA folks to hang out and listen to/vibe to their favorite slow jams. Within months of starting up, 143 was packing out dive bars and venues and had ultimately become a big success. Over the past 3 years and change, they’ve had live guests like Ashanti & Ja Rule, Ginuwine, Sisqo and Jon B and guest djs like A-Trak, DJ Wonder, Gaslamp Killer, Questlove, Joe Kay, Jubilee, Mr. Carmack and so many more. The party has hit the road before and they return to NY this coming weekend in a collab event with The Rub out at Coney Island. Check out some videos and links from the 143 crew below as well as details for Saturday’s upcoming event.

#TBT – Rub Radio July 2013

TBT this week is a quick shot back 3 years to our anniversary Rub Radio mix from July 2013. Lots of bangers on this mix and some unfortunately have become a bit forgotten in a very short amount of time. You’ve got pre Run The Jewels El-P and Killer Mike, Grandtheft and Skratch Bastid’s fantastic “Miley” tune, Drake’s quiet anthem in “The Motion” and a couple of Rub tune sightings as well. Summer is in full effect and it’s about to be that time to celebrate year 14 of The Rub. Stream and download below.

6.27 – That New New

The end of June is upon us and summer is officially in full swing. And on the TNN tip, there is never any slowing down with solid and notable new tunes coming out. It seems to be just a way of life in 2016. First up, we’ve got a huge new posse cut from Jeezy, 2 Chainz and Future called “Magic City Monday”. 2 Chainz stays stealing the show like always. Second, we’ve got a new original from NY house producer, Moon Boots. He drops a really smooth foray into ’90s influenced classic dance vibes. Finally, we’ve got a new cut from THEY., an eclectic duo that’s burst onto the music scene in the last 12 months. Their latest, “Say When”, is a super rouged and bluesy banger. You can stream all 3 in full below.

6.25 – Skip-the-line Tickets

We’ve got 100 skip-the-line tickets for tomorrow night’s party and they’re going very fast. $15 (all in…no fees) jumps you right past a long wait in line, regardless of when you show up to The Bell House. Otherwise, The Rub line is always a roadblock by 11:00 pm. So if you don’t want to wait and don’t jump at this deal, you’re unfortunately stuck having to come out early to avoid the chaos. Special guest this month is DJ Steve1der! See you all tomorrow night.

FOTR: Steve1der

FOTR this week is our good bud Steve1der. He’s been a fixture in LA for well over a decade whether on the DJ or remixer tip and is highly influential in both realms with working DJs all over the world. He’s always been one of those working DJ heads that actually has his ear to the ground for new sounds and has a knack for helping break dope records and plays them in way where they resonate with the listener. This Saturday, he returns to BK for his 2nd trip to The Rub and we’re super stoked to have him back in the building. He also provided our guest mix for Rub Radio this month, which you can peep below as well as keeping up with all his socials. And make sure to not miss his set Saturday night at The Bell House!
