Friends of The Rub – Tittsworth

Jesse Tittsworth is one of those guys you just don’t come across very often. Seems like he has his hand in everything these days. From touring around the world as an in-demand DJ, co-owning of one of the best night clubs in America U Street Music Hall, running T&A Records alongside our own DJ Ayres, to becoming known as one of the more interesting foodies you’ll run into, you can bet Jesse is never sitting idle. This week, he releases a much anticipated EP on T&A records called “Juicy Jorts” with DC producers Dj Rez E and Des McMahon.

If you have ever seen a DJ set of his live, his energy is almost spastic. What is so great about his new EP, and most of his production work, is that it sounds just like Jesse. There isn’t really any new music coming out that sounds anything like this. Mix it with this insane cover art, and you got yourself one hell of a release.

Jesse has one of the best Instagram handles in the game, showcasing all of the food we all wish or are too scared to eat. His handle is a must follow, but be forewarned, he will post pictures of his balls, and I don’t mean Octo-Balls: @Tittsworth

Tittsworth also is a well-known commodity in the tattoo world and has worked with legendary artists like Shige recently.

Check out his back tattoo! This shit is not for the faint of heart! Read about the 60 hour process of getting this done HERE.

Friends of The Rub – DāM-FunK

Pasadena CA’s finest and the hands-down one of the funkiest men in modern music, DāM-FunK has been a favorite of ours since he dropped in on the scene back in 2008. His G-funk claps, smoothed-out keys, and throwback style keeps him in a class reserved for the likes of Steve Arrington and other 80’s funk legends.

DāM is the kind of artist that just locks himself in the studio and makes track after track. Luckily for his us, he is very interactive with his fans and terrific at releasing his music out via his Soundcloud, Twitter, and Facebook pages.

Grab these unreleased tracks:

DāM is wrapping up his European “Re-Introduction” tour today and on his way back to Pasadena will be playing Sunday night here in New York at Brooklyn Bowl as part of the Northside Fest. The Rub will be opening up for him and we couldn’t be more excited!

Friends of The Rub – Skinny Friedman

“Friends of The Rub” should be called “Family of The Rub” this week as we feature Andy “Skinny” Friedman. Andy has been a long-time associate of ours, creatively, as well as on an administrative level for us behind the scenes. On his own time, he has been working non-stop as a full-time DJ/producer along with running his own record label, Young Robots, with his Philadelphyinz partner DJ Apt-One and our guy DJ Ayres.

Skinny has a big release out today that’s getting support from all over called Trap Rave 2.0.

He’s been heavy into the Moombahton scene since Spring of 2010, but his work stands out from other Moombahtonistas due to his endearing love and knowledge of rap music. All of the tracks on Trap Rave 2.0 are remixes of recent rap hits. The set has a real cohesive feel and all play out real well to even the most finicky of dancefloors.

If you don’t believe us, check out the shout-out he got in Spin Magazine. BAWSE!

Along with the EP release today, he also out out a mix last week called “Rack Skinny Bitch” that bangs so hard.

We offer our full support to an old friend of ours and if you are in New York City this weekend, go rage with him at his EP release party. Pretty good chance he might take his shirt off at some point during this night of debauchery so don’t miss it!

Friends of The Rub – Nick Catchdubs

Gonna be an incredible weekend as we bring special guest Nick Catchdubs to play The Rub tomorrow night at The Bell House. Nick has been a long time buddy of ours, playing numerous Rubs with us as well as designing flyers for us along the way.

Nick is one of the hardest working guys we know and an encyclopedia of musical knowledge. He is your go-to guy for just about anything hip-hop related, but it is his work with Fool’s Gold Records that has made this guy a staple in the music community.

Along with co-owner A-Trak, Fool’s Gold Records is hands-down one of the most popular independent record labels around. This past year, the boys struck gold by showcasing a new heavy hitter in rap music, Danny Brown. Their label has also cultivated artists over the years such as Cubic Zirconia, Flosstradamus, The Suzan, Telephoned, and Treasure Fingers.

We’re also big fans of Nick’s remixes and mix tapes throughout the years. He’s always been ahead of the curve in new music and the tracklists for his mixes always spawn lots of google searches. His latest remix below of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” called “USBz in the Trap” is just flat out awesome and you should download this immediately.

Nick is also fantastic at Twitter, so keep up with him HERE

Friends of The Rub – Dave Nada

To say that Dave Nada has come a long way the past couple of years is a crazy understatement. Dave’s always been an incredible DJ (his Baltimore club set at The Rub a few years ago nearly tore Southpaw down), but his ascension into becoming a real pioneer in the dance music scene has been nothing short of remarkable.

The founding father of Moombahton and 1/2 of DJ team Nadastrom, Dave has spent the last two years touring the world while inspiring countless producers and DJ’s to push his white-hot genre of music to new levels. Starting today, he is adding a whole new dynamic to the mix by launching a record label with his partner in crime Matt Nordstrom called Diabluma Sounds.

Dave and Matt’s first release on their label is also from a close pal of The Rub, Maryland native Steve Starks. The EP is entitled “The Burma” and it is a big release for all of those Moombahton heads out there. The percussion on this is just heavy stuff.

Take a listen to the preview below:

It officially comes out today so go cop that on Beatport HERE

We’re happy to help celebrate such an important day for Dave Nada, Matt Nordstrom, and Steve Starks, so go support some of our favorite bros.

We at The Rub love our neighbors to the North. The crop of DJ’s we play with in Canda never lets us down and we have made so many close friends over the years in our many travels there. Included in that are the Eh! Team DJ’s. These dudes are a DJ collective that consists of six world class DJ’s from different provinces, and they are your DJ’s kind of DJ’s. The turntablism skills amongst this crew can compete with anyone out there.

DJ Hedspin and DJ Pump, two of the six guys, are the cream of the crop you’ll see these days. Hedspin recently won the 2011 Red Bull Thre3Style National Finals with a set that left the best DJ’s in attendance quite floored. DJ Pump constantly throws out edits that end up in our sets. These guys are just beasts who are a must-see act if they come to your town.

They made a promo mix to promote their latest tour and damn if this mix isn’t incredible. Been on repeat all day at the office:

Oh, and if you wanna see how DJ Hedspin won the Regional Finals this year for Red Bull, well, take a gander at this 15 minute set. Jesus!

Friends of The Rub – Waajeed

Waajeed needs little introduction to music fans, as his work over the years as a producer has spawned absolute classics such as The Platinum Pied Pipers first album, Triple P, as well as Dwele’s first release, Rize. The man has had his footprint in such an incredible era of music, working with the likes of J-Dilla, Roy Ayers, Slum Village, and countless others.

He has relaunched his website Bling47.com and since he has, it has become mandatory for any music lover to bookmark this site. They constantly generate original content and showcase videos and interviews you really could not find anywhere else. It’s like an insider’s guide to our generation’s music scene, specifically J Dilla’s back stories, and they drop these gems all the time.

Waajeed is still heavy into production and recently put this remix of our pal Kutcorners’ track “Diamond” on his site. This is feel good, drive down the street with your windows down music. So wonderful.

Few people we love more than the dynamic duo from Canada, the Smalltown DJ’s. We’ve had a long relationship with these two brothers over the past decade. From touring with them, having them guest at The Rub, to playing at their top class music venue in Calgary, The Hi-Fi Club, our paths continue to run into each other. They’re just great dudes, what can we say?

We’re also big fans of their production and remix work over the years. Their new single, “Loving The Vibe” came out on DJ Ayres’ label, T&A records yesterday. The single is a ton of fun and is already getting plenty of play from DJ’s all over. Really love the tropical bass influences in this. The single also has 4 remixes from all different genres. Lots to like about this entire release, so go support some of our dearest friends.

Anyone who knows these two guys know they are some of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet, so much so this tour video was made for our Sixpacks, Shotguns, and Serato tour from 2010. One of the best tours ever.

Keep up with these guys on their website HERE

Friends of The Rub – DJ mOma

For our latest entry into “Friends of The Rub” we bring you a close friend and collaborator of ours, DJ mOma. One of NYC’s most prolific DJ’s for years now, mOma has played numerous Rub’s (including our huge NYE 2012 party) as well contributed to DJ Ayres’ Heavy Warmup Series.

Tomorrow night, we bring him back with us to crush our first official Saturday residency at The Bell House. He’ll be holding things down in the back bar all night. Gonna be rowdy.

We’re also big fans of his remix work and want to make sure all of you pick up his latest 2 tracks.

His “Love Forever” Michael Jackson rework brings the house down every time:

He just released this new one, a remix of the Fantasia song “Free Yourself” to get the dance floor grown n’ sexy:

Friends of The Rub – Fashen

We’re happy to showcase our pal Fashen, a world-class DJ who most recently came through and tore up the The Rub’s guest slot this past January, and who is now just about to release his very first EP next week on Young Robots.

His debut EP “So Complete” came out of nowhere for a guy pretty much known for only being a top flight club DJ. The lead single “Ecstasy” is a such a stomper with a groovy rhythm and some seriously feel-good vocals. Summertime vibes written all over this one!

Be the first to listen to “Ecstasy” below:

Young Robots is releasing this EP next Tuesday! Lots of heavy hitters lately from this label run by Skinny Friedman, DJ Apt One, and our own DJ Ayres. GET FAMILIAR
